Marsaili grinned and dipped her head in acknowledgment.
"A close cousin, to be precise."
She answered with palpable glee - clearly he had been guessing in jest, and not meaning in any way to be accurate. Yet her answer was not false; 'Nessie' was a relative, though she wasn't sure of the exact ties.
"Kelpie is my calling - but Marsaili is my name."

"Kelpie?" William repeated. He hadn't heard of that species before, but then if she really was a loch ness monster, well, more along the lines of a type of loch ness monster. He was glad that he wasn't human, and wouldn't be her dinner. And he hoped that he had made a friend with this Kelpie woman named Marsaili.
"I'm William Meeran, I suppose my calling is ghost, though you already knew that. I have not heard of any Kelpies" he replied, "Other than your ... close cousin, but until a few moments ago, I thought it was just a legend, ya'know an old wives tale?" (Is it pronounced how its spelled or no?)

((Yep. ^_^ I think it's an Anglicized spelling or something.))
"William," she experimented, the syllables rolling off of her tongue with rich Scottish emphases. It was a good name, a common one in these parts.
She grinned again, amused that one of the spirit world should doubt the existence of her kind. Perhaps it was simply to be expected, however - as time passed, her people had been all but forgotten. Stories told 'round the hearth. It made hunting easier, in a way, but the challenge was gone. The thrill of the prey's realization.
"We have grown adept at secrecy through the centuries," she agreed, "with that notable exception. And I suppose we have never been the most populous of species."

William nodded. "Well, that's a relief, there would be more of humans in my state, if there were more Kelpies going around, ya think?" he replied. Then he smirked. "I noticed how you were looking around the pub with that look of longing for mama's down home gumbo or something similar, and I jumped ta'thinkin' that you your 'more filling repast' involves a bit of bone and blood, am I right?" he replied.

Marsaili laughed, honestly, at the thought of a world populated by ghosts due to a sudden population boom of kelpies.
"We have a certain sense of moderation," she protested gamely, still grinning.
When he mentioned repast, a dark light slid through her eyes, and she licked her lips slowly, achingly.
"Even the best of us have to eat sometime," the kelpie murmured, feeling her stomach tighten as it was reminded that food wasn't present yet. "A good steak or burger can tide me over, but my natural diet is as you have suggested - mortal men." A light sigh, and then a mild frown. Then, with a little chuckle, she amended her statement. "Well, mortal humans, at any rate. I'm not overly picky about gender, or age for that matter."
