He shrugged, thankful that her curiosity had something else to focus on than his religious views or lack there of. "I know you're not all together human, there's a feel to you that's more supernatural than mortal. But yeah, I might have been listening in on one of our friend's conversations." Not that it was hard with him, Vlad and Morgan living in the same house.
"Of course, Lolland Law Firm of London isn't any better." Another shrug. This was the longest he'd carried on a conversation with anyone other than the other council members in...well as far back as he could remember. He wasn't one for long winded conversations, they led to things he didn't want to talk about. This conversation was turning out to be no different, he'd take his leave soon.

Esme had a slight feeling that the conversation that they were having was going to end soon, and truthfully, she didn't want to be left alone. After the meeting she had had earlier with Roxy that had left her slightly frightened, from which she was still shaking from inwardly, and being abandoned by her parents once more Esme could not stand being on her own.
She racked her brain for another question, one that may keep this man, strange as he was, in her company for even a bit longer. "May I ask, how exactly are you acquainted with Vlad? Are you a member of the Council as well, or is there some other way you had met him?"

It seemed like the girl was just asking whatever she could think of to keep the conversation going. He was willing to bet that her curiosity was getting the better of her, she seemed like the type who wouldn't leave until she found out something about him. Persistent, that was a good word for it, and the girl had a gift for making it less annoying than it usually was. To sweet, she was to sweet, to easy to like. It was a dangerous quality, at least for creatures like him who lived eternally. It wasn't good to get attached to mortals, it only ended in pain. At least the members of the council would live until they were killed, humans lives' were just to short.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you that curiosity killed the cat? Of course you're not a cat, but I'm sure fate will work something out." He shook his head. He figured that not telling this girl anything was more dangerous than giving her tidbits to work on. "Alright, fine. You caught me. I'm a Council member too." The first to join the council, the first out of the three (him, Vlad and Morgan) to meet Jonas. She probably couldn't imagine someone older than the vampire she'd already met but he made Vlad look like a child.

Esme smiled sweetly, she was happy that he had actually stayed with her. It made her feel safe for even a bit longer.
A small laugh snuck through her lips when he warned her about curiosity and the cat, "My parents have definitely told me that before. I believe that even Vlad had mentioned it a couple of times. I just blame it on me being so young, and being so new to this world, that I have an unnatural thirst for more. I already fear that it's killed some parts of me, especially because of the person I was with tonight... or the others that I have met, not all as comforting of figures as Vlad or..." Esme trailed off, she didn't quite know if she could tell this person that she knew of other members of the Council, maybe not the best of ideas just yet.
Esme could feel her features light up when she learned that she had met yet another member of the Council. "Vlad was right, I have begun to meet you all in due time. Don't take that the wrong way. It truly interests me that a group off unlikely strangers could ban together to help the humans in even the most obscure of ways. It intrigues me that any of you would go beyond natural inclinations, like those of Vlad, to protect those that you were meant to hate or prey upon. I've just wanted to get to know as much about the Council as possible."

He raised an eyebrow when Esme said that her curiosity had already killed some parts of her and mentioned who she'd been with. Was that why the girl had reeked of Ruina? Could it be possible that Esme had known she was talking to the king of demons? Straight forward had never been Ruina's style. And what was this about some other people she'd met? He finally decided that the girl's curiosity was contagious and he had to ask. "Whose made such a bad impression on you already? You're to young to be cynical."
The girl's face lit up like the sun as he watched. He hadn't thought admitting to being on the council would make her that happy. He was going to kill Vlad himself for encouraging this one's curiosity. It was unhealthy, it would get the girl hurt some day.
He laughed at her description of the council, a warlock, grim reaper, vampire and sorceress...yeah unlikely strangers was one way of putting it. "It's not that unlikely, or even that strange. Not all of us are ok with being monsters, all it took was the founder of the council coming along and offering us the chance to change." He left names out on purpose, if Jonas wanted Esme to know about him then the warlock could tell her himself.

Esme sighed, one thing she hated most about bad experiences was having to recount them when people asked about them. But if this was the only way she could keep this man at her side, she would tell him whatever he wanted. "Well, I could tell you about the Jesus freak man who bothered me to the point that I began to think about not studying law or magic ever again. Or the adorable yet annoying young vampire who I became acquaintances with who later began to lust after my blood. Or the shifty angel who never said more than two sentences to me without diverting the conversation off of himself. Or would you like to speak of my newest acquaintance, the essence of pure evil incarnate." Esme ticked off each person she had ever met that left a slightly foul memory of some sort, and raised her eyebrow when she was finally finished quickly telling tales of each of them.
Esme felt that even the few statements here and there that this man was telling her were golden pieces of information that she had longed for all of her life. "From what I've met of the Council, none of you are monsters in any form. I quite enjoy learning from all of you, even the little tidbits that you don't notice you're teaching me."

He must have looked like a deer in the headlights listening to her go through the list of her less than pleasant encounters with a variety of supernatural creatures. It was strange to hear so much intensity from her after her neutral responses to everything else. Jesus freak he could understand, they annoyed him to no end too. The bit about the angel didn't surprise him, they were impossibly vague and indifferent. The story about the vampire who lusted for her blood made him raise his eyebrows in interest. This was the sort of thing that the council was made to take care of. "How much trouble has this vampire been giving you?"
Her hatred for her newest acquaintance told him that it had to be Ruina, the demon king had that effect on most everyone she met unless she was really trying to be sneaky. "Pure evil, you seem sure about that." He let it sound like a little bit of a question.
Judas shrugged off the intended compliment about no one on the council being monsters. That was only because she didn't know anything about their pasts, or his past at least, he didn't know exactly how much Vlad had shared. Even so, the vampire's past wasn't anywhere near as damning as his own. "And what is it exactly that I've been teaching you?"

Esme thought back, "No, Soren hasn't really caused me much trouble. He assumes that he's one of my closest friends at this point; why, I know not. But when he attempted to attack, I was in the company of a Fallen Angel, it all ended up well in the end."
Esme could see the gears working in the man's head. There was obviously something about Roxy he was trying to figure out. "As for Roxy," Esme continued, "It wasn't that she told me anything. But more that evil just emanated from every pore of her being. From the moment she sat at my table yesterday to today when she gave me that book, I could sense nothing other than hatred and any other evil one has grown up to call thusly. It all clung to her skin like the cologne of one of the many men she claimed to have."
"You, have taught me quite a bit. You've taught me that I shouldn't trust my senses entirely like I have before. Before there was no reason to doubt what I figured. Those who were evil were most obviously so, vampires were like other vampires, angels like others of their sorts. You, on the other hand, seem to be a mixture of a few groups and so it makes it harder to peg you as any group. It's much easier just to speak to you and formulate my own opinions, something I had never before thought of doing."

"Wait, he attacked you and he still thinks he's one of your friends? That's a whole new kind of denial." The part about her being saved by a fallen angel was even more interesting, he knew that not all fallen were in league with Lucifer but it was one thing to know that and another thing to hear about one saving the life of a human.
He laughed to himself when she said the woman's name who she had met was Roxy. You'd think Ruina could have been a little more creative than that, it sounded like an exotic dancer name. He listened to her rather accurate description of the king of demons and couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl. He couldn't tell her what she was dealing with without getting Ruina on his case. Thankfully, the girl seemed to have figured out that this 'Roxy' was no good on her own. It looked like he could dodge that particular bullet...for awhile at least.
The flask came out again and he went to take a drink only to realize that it was empty. He scowled and shoved it back into his jacket. "Don't know about that, doesn't sound like I've taught you anything. Trust your instincts, they're right. Anyone who feels evil, is, simple as that." He may be one of the good guys but he was still a demon when all was said and done.

"Perhaps Soren is in denial, or else it's myself, I know not. I feel that even as jaded as Soren may be, he's still one person who truly cares about my well-being... even if he is a spazz." Esme rubbed her arms slightly as a cold breeze blew the air.
His laugh at Roxy's name made her spine tingle. Perhaps she had been correct in thinking that she wasn't to be trusted... at all. But Esme ignored the statement and watched the man even more intently. She had been sifting through her memories for a while. Vlad had told her stories about the Council. Plenty of them. He told her that there were only four left, himself, Morgan, both of whom she had met, a soul collector and a warlock named Jonas. Esme figured that this person she was with was the soul collector of the Council. But what was his name?
She had long ago remembered that his name had a religious ring to it, so she was trying to remember what names sounded right. And it wasn't until she was thinking about the Apostles, a long trek through the Old Testament and through a bit of the new, that she remembered this man's reaction to the name Judas when she was quizzing him on religion to figure what he was. Perfect! She knew who he was, finally!
She watched as he pulled out his flask and put it back again, he seemed slightly dejected. "How about we go get you more whiskey. I could go for a nice drink myself," Esme pulled her parent's gold card from back jean pocket and showed it to the man, "I'm paying." With that she placed the card back in her pocket, laced her arm around his and began to walk towards a small pub on the corner of the square.
"Well, see, you have taught me one precious piece of your knowledge, Judas," Esme looked at his face, waiting to see what his reaction would be, a small triumphant smile crossing her face.
