Samyaza groaned using Jonas’ lips to make the sound. He lifted Shoftiel into his arms, like a damsel in distress, waiting for her to make certain she had her Hammer. “The hypocrisy of the Choir is boundless. God bade me to tend his Flock. I tended. God bade me to educate his Creation. I taught. God bade me to love and honor his Creation, made in his image, lifted up to be even above us in the importance of his Divine Clockwork Universe. I loved. I loved them so much, that I could not keep our secrets. I could not leave them to be pawns upon a chessboard wrought by God and his Big Red Brother.” He felt the Seal roll out of Jonas and burn into the ground. Even Cassiel would not be able to erase it entirely. ”You do not lose your Grace in disobedience. It is taken from you. Is He even paying enough attention to take your Grace? Will he deny Lucifer his Grace when the time comes for Satan to be put down again?”
Jonas resumed control with effort, and took a deep breath. There was a pulling sensation, like someone inside their bodies tugging on their navels, and then they were somewhere else. The dome above them littered with stars, like a blue crystal bowl set with gemstones. It moved and rotated with the movement of the stars and planets, a great Celestial augury; his Sanctuary, connected to the Council’s manor. “Forgive Samyaza his vociferous opinions. I do not disagree, but now is not the time.” A bed was conjured from nothing, and Shoftiel was placed gently upon the high cushioned table. “I will tend to your injuries. You are safe here, out of the eye of everything. Few are the beings that can find you here, and those will have to exercise effort to do so.”
