Will slumped in his chair, flipping through what must have been the hundredth dusty tome that day. The library was empty but for him, as far as he could see, though others could have been trawling throught the many shelves of the Archives unseen.
With a muttered curse, he tossed the book aside in disgust. Nothing. Two years of searching, and beyond some false information and crushed hopes, the trail was as cold as it had ever been. Absolutely nothing.
He stood, making a quick chech of his weapons as he did, almost a reflex by now. The two lonng-knives were still snug up his sleeve, as well as the smaller throwing darts nestled in small holsters all over his body. He could gardly carry anything more in his civilain clothes, he supposed.
Hastily returning the books to their shelves, he began a fresh hunt , scanning the library archives for anything else that could help him.

Autumn had just brought the book Lucifer had given her to be cataloged. the fact it was from Lucifer had once again caused her a massive head ache from here superiors, questioning who she served and where her allegiances were. She explained it was not her fault that she was stalked by Lucifer and after some heavy debates felt some ease that she was not under suspicion. She hated the fact Lucifer amuse himself by following her, but he did on occasion bring her something useful, like the book she now carried under her arm. the self proclaimed gospel of Lucifer.
She put the book on the shelf, taking note of the hefty texts next to it and walked through the stacks, her fingers trailing over the dusty scriptures until she turned and found Will. They had worked together for some time, then he wanted to take retirement, and then....Then the worst possible thing happened. he lost his family.
"Long time no see stranger..." Autumn smiled.

Will never even heard her coming, so absorbed was he in the search. He started at the sound of her voice, sliding a blade out of his sleeve before he could think. Seeing who it was, he slid the knife back into it's sheath almost sheepishly, hoping she hadn't noticed.
"Yeah, I'm as surprised to be here as you are to see me, Autumn," he grunted quietly. "Never thought I'd come back. I've been...busy."
He cleared his throat, then returned the smile awkwardly. It was good to see an old friend, it really was, but he wasn't sure how to act anymore.

Autumn took a step back when she saw him pull the knife out and held her hands up instinctivley. She could only imagine what he was feeling after loosing his family. She had never been close to hers, but she knew how she would feel if some one close to her was murdered. It would be hell on earth. watching him put the blade away she lowered her hands and tried her best to give a sensitive smile.
"What do you need me to do?" It was a blunt question, but she was asuming he was on a search for what ever was responsible for his families death, "What do you need?"

He felt his chest tighten, an unexpected pang of sadness at her offer. I just flashed a damn knife at her, and she wants to help me.
It was something he had never understood, though grown to respect, about Autumn Walker. She would offer a helping hand, whenever, whatever.
But this is my war.
He couldn't ask anyone to get involved in the desperate mission that would surely see him killed. He knew and accepted this, but he wouldn't be responsible for any more innocent deaths. Not since that night.
How could he have been foolish enough to think that he could fight the darkness, without facing the consequences?
Shaking his shaggy head, he returned his attention to the beautiful young woman before him. Just as the silence seemed to have stretched to the max, he spoke, his voice rough:
"I need to be left alone," he growled. "Bad enough to have the damn Fifth sending me on pointless jobs left, right and centre. I don't need them sending some girl to check up on me in between."
He tried to maintain the act of anger, despite the burn of shame and self-loathing in the pit of his stomach. His little show would be enough to deflect her offer, make her hate him, even, he hoped. He couldn't have her on his conscience.
When the time came, he would die alone.

Autumn lowered her eyes when he finally spoke and exhaled deeply. She could see the pain in his eyes, feel his aura mixed with reds and blacks, fractured, broken. She felt a pang of pain break through her soul as he called her "some girl", she had thought they were friends, obviously now, it was different, now he was a changed man.
"Fine." Autumn said bluntly and turned to walk away, "It's not your war....you're just another soldier, another person inflicted by the horrors we fight to prevent...so whether you admit it or not...It's not just your way.."
She shouldnt of read his mind, but she couldnt keep his thoughts out from her own.

He gritted his teeth as she spun on her hell and walked away from him, his anger only matched by his confusion.
Well, isn't this what you wanted, idiot?
Something she had said made him frown. "It's not your war...."
Remarkably close to the thought he had left unspoken.
But- How? She couldn't have-...did she?
These muddled thoughts ran through his head as he instinctively reached out with his mind, trying to discern what she was thinking, feeling right now. But it was no good: he had never been able to control his skills as an empath, and his mental probe unravelleled before it even reached her.
Some bloody "talent"..
Before he knew what he was doing, he had crossed the distance between them and laid his hand on her shoulder, ready to demand what she had done to him. Instead, much to his surprise, what came out was:
"Autumn, I'm sorry."
He blinked. Now that couldn't be right.
Jackass.

Autumn turned when she heard him say he was sorry. She brought her hand up, palm facing him as if to back him off in some way.
"Forget about it, It's fine..." She said through gritted teath, in fact he had hurt her feelings and she wanted to curse at him for being a dick. But she needed to be compassionate, or at least try. Even if he was being a asshole.
"You carry on doing...whatever it is you're doing..I'll get out of your hair..dont want the silly girl interrupting your work.."
Her tone was blunt and as she finished speking she flinched as she heard the words escape her lips. This was not going well.

He ground his teeth, twitching as an awkward silence descended on the two once more.
"Listen," he said grudgingly, his voice gruff, "you're right. This isn't my war. All this searching, dead-ends, it's....it's just frustrating, I guess." He continued, hoping he managed not to make a complete ass of himself for the second time that day.
"I'm not making any promises but.....what I'm trying to say is.....if you really want to help, I'd be grateful."

Autumn broken into a soft smile, "Then i would be glad to help..." Autumn stepped forward and trailed her fingers over the spines of the books, not really searching for anything specific, just generally looking.
"Would help me help you more if i had some idea what I'm looking for.." She didn't want to ask him, but if he wanted to catch the demon then she would need details, "How does it kill? Any markings..anything different than what we normally see...any clue?"
