Archer frowned as he sat on his desk, a large book in his right hand and his left hand pushing his glasses to the bridge of his nose.
His eyes scanned the page, its contents already stored in the databank that was his memory. Biting his lip, he muttered under his breath. He put the book down quickly and turned around to type a search query into the computer. The list of results that were returned smoothed out the furrow between his brow.
"I knew it..." He closed his hand into a fist of triumph, and then turned away from the screen. He moved across the room swiftly, stepping up onto the ladder leaned against the ten-foot tall bookcase. Climbing up halfway, he leaned over to the right and scanned the titles on one of the shelves. Finding what he was looking for, he pulled it out and climbed back down. His foot got caught on the last rung and he fell back, eyes wide.
"Knickers!" he blurted as he landed on his back, the air knocked out of him. His arm had knocked a table on the way down, and the items that had been resting upon it came tumbling down on top of him. He threw his arms over his head to protect himself from the falling debris. All in all, he had made quite a ruckus, but then Archer Rayne was not the most graceful person in the world.
Letting out an exasperated sigh, he started to pull him self out of the mess, making sure that the book he had been retrieving was unharmed. It seemed to be. Well, at least that was something. Setting the book on a chair beside, he starting picking up the pencils, notes, and half-empty bags of Jelly Bellies that had been sitting on the table.
Then something caught his eye under a crumpled note. Something red and dusted. Narrowing his gaze, he gingerly lifted the paper, only to find a red Jelly Belly lying face down on the floor. "Aw..." He picked it up and looked out it, almost sad to have to throw it out. But it had already been on the floor for ten seconds, and was covered with germs and bacteria from the floor. He stared at it for about half a minute, and looked around, rather ridiculously, for anyone who might be watching. Then he rubbed it on his shirt vigorously and popped it in his mouth.
