Character Name:
Gabriel aka St. Gabriel (Angel of Mercy, Angel of the Annunciation, Angel of Resurrection) among other names he has been called.
Species:
Archangel
Age, Gender:
Ageless, though he has been on earth for many eons. He is one of the three archangels mentioned in the Bible. There are four references that name Gabriel on record.
Description:
Gabriel is as beautiful as he can be terrible, his golden hair that was waist length, now only as long as his shoulders waves around his face bringing great contrast to the fine bone structure that makes him seem something of fantasy. Chocolate brown orbs peer out of a face that looks as if a chiseled Greek statue has come to life. His height only adds to this appearance, at 6 foot 9 inches he is a giant among humans but not among others of his kind. His body looks as if he works out at least once a day, though he has never entered a gym in all his eternity walking upon the earth. He embodies the term "face of an angel" he is the personification of beauty and can't help but turn heads.
Perhaps it was his long hair, or his manner that has caused many over the centuries to say that Gabriel was indeed a woman and not a man. Many of the depictions in art of this particular angel, show a feminine creature and not that of a man. Were the people wrong? Or was this angel able to mask his true self? Appear to others as either sex? It has never been documented whether this is true or not, but Gabriel is the -only- angel to depicted as a woman. The question is why?
A arch Angel, better known as a Seraphim. The right hand of God and leader of Angels and holy word in the battle between heaven and hell. Un faltering and pure of heart and strong of will. Can be very proud, of all the Angels he struggles most to refrain from falling. He has a great hatred toward Lucifer.
Personality:
This angel could right novels on how to be stubborn, though he is not unreasonable. He has the capacity to be benevolent and compassionate if he is given a good reason to be so. He hates Fallen Angels and Demons with a passion, and those he thinks have turned against god, most specifically Lucifer. His creator has said that he needs to brush away the hate for it could be his undoing.
He has no real dislike for human kind, though he doesn't understand his God's great love for them. He does have a soft spot for babies and young children though since he is the angel that instructs their souls in what they need to know during the nine months they are in the womb and the fact that they are not yet tainted with sin.
History:
Often considered as a slightly more benevolent spirit than his ally Michael, the cherubim Gabriel is most often noted as the messenger of the Annunciation where he tells Mary of the impending birth of Christ. Another notable birth that Gabriel presided over was that of John the Baptist when Gabriel came to Zacharias and told him of his coming son.
Within all of the legends of birthing, Gabriel as been accredited as the angel who selects souls from heaven to be birthed into the material world and spends the nine months as the child is being developed informing the new person of what he or she will need to know on Earth, only to silence the child before birth by pressing his finger onto the child's lips, thus producing the cleft below a person's nose.
Besides births however, Gabriel is also the angel who came before Daniel and told him of the future as well as the angel responsible for strengthening Christ prior to the Crucifixion. Finally, not being all pregnancies and wisdom, he is told as the angel who struck down the cities of Sodom and Gommorah as well as other places of sin throughout the Old Testament although he is never named there as such. Gabriel is described as the Governor of Eden and Ruler of the Cherubim. Gabriel sits at the right hand of God. He is usually shown as a majestic figure, richly attired, sometimes wearing a crown and bearing a scepter. His right hand is usually extended in salutation.
Thus he is throughout the angel of the Incarnation and of Consolation, and so in Christian tradition Gabriel is ever the angel of mercy while Michael is rather the angel of judgment. At the same time, even in the Bible, Gabriel is, in accordance with his name, the angel of the Power of God, and it is worth while noting the frequency with which such words as "great", "might", "power", and "strength" occur in the passages referred to above.
The Jews indeed seem to have dwelt particularly upon this feature in Gabriel's character, and he is regarded by them as the angel of judgment, while Michael is called the angel of mercy. Thus they attribute to Gabriel the destruction of Sodom and of the host of Sennacherib, though they also regard him as the angel who buried Moses, and as the man deputed to mark the figure Tau on the foreheads of the elect (Ezech., 4).
In later Jewish literature the names of angels were considered to have a peculiar efficacy, and the British Museum possesses some magic bowls inscribed with Hebrew, Aramaic, and Syriac incantations in which the names of Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel occur. These bowls were found at Hillah, the site of Babylon, and constitute an interesting relic of the Jewish captivity. In apocryphal Christian literature the same names occur, cf. Enoch, ix, and the Apocalypse of the Blessed Virgin.
Furthermore, according to Muslims, Gabriel dictated the Koran to Mohammed over a period of 23 years and also accompanied the Prophet on his Night Journey.

It was time, Gabriel softly whispered the last few instructions to the babe that was about to be born then pressed his finger against the the top of the child's lip, "Shhh little one, you mustn't tell all you know, but remember." Hie teaching was complete it was time for the new soul to be born into the world and do what it was destined to do.
Gabriel stood back and watched the room where the mother now labored to bring the child into the world. He knew it had been a difficult time for this mother, she was still almost a child herself. At barely 16 years of age, she would become a mother and raise a child that held secrets like no other. Gabriel had done his duty and instructed this child as he had all others, but this one was special there was something different about her that would bring about change.
At last a cry was heard from the mouth of the babe as she breached the womb and made her first appearance into the outside world. Would she be all that he hoped? Would she remember the things he had told her? Only time would tell.....
