Character Name: Archer Rayne
Species: Human
Age | Gender: 25 | Male
Description:
A thin nerdy-looking young man standing at 5' 7", with brown eyes and mousy brown hair hanging to his jawline, though he often pushes it back away from his face and behind his ears. His skin is the kind of pale you can only have from staying inside for years.
He usually wears button-front long-sleeve shirts, with the sleeves cuffed to his elbows, tailored pants, and leather belts. He also has a varied collection of neckties. To complete his daily outfit, he wears a pair of black or brown leather Chuck Taylors. When doing research, he'll put on his horn-rimmed reading glasses. Some other items that might be on his person include vests, sweater vests, cardigans, and suit jackets.
Personality:
Archer is a bit of an introvert, but he is exceptionally intelligent. He has an I.Q. of 189, along with an eidetic memory, giving him the ability to recall images, sounds, or objects in memory with extreme accuracy and also in abundant volume. He is capable of reading 20,000 words per minute. Most people would call him a genius, but Archer would be the first to tell you that he disagrees with the use of the word as it inaccurately quantifies intelligence. Aside from this, he isn't very socially aware. While he is able to interact with people and respond to them, he has trouble picking up on social cues. For this reason, most people find him weird. He has never actually dated anyone, nor has he been in a close relationship with anyone outside his family or his work. He does care for his team members, and tries his best to prepare them completely for field missions. He worries about the team leader, Autumn, most of all.
He has the tendency to babble on about a topic, spouting information and statistics from a plethora of sources. He is very serious about the research he does, and feels that he is best at technical support, rather than field missions. He gets very nervous when he is asked to come along on a field mission, as he'd rather read about demons than actually face them in real life. As it were, he gets very nervous about any situation he does not feel prepared for. His dependence on his research and his knowledge to prepare him for said situations is noticeable.
He is a huge Doctor Who fan, and likes to discuss the improbabilities of the physics and biology on the show. He is casually addicted to chocolate-covered coffee beans and Jelly Babies. He listens to different kinds of music but has a penchant for Pink Floyd and Vivaldi. He refuses to buy an iPod, openly championing the superiority of the LP recording.
History:
Archer's childhood was pervaded with tests on and demonstrations of his intelligence. Chess competitions, spelling bees, science fairs, and essay contents were games to him. His mother tried her hardest to challenge her gifted son and encouraged him to skip grades in school. As a result, he completed high school at 12, finished his PhD in cryptozoology at 17 and his PhD in paranormal science when he was 19.
He spent the next few years developing a paranormal database for an undisclosed agency. At 23, he was recruited by a branch of the Vatican specializing in paranormal and supernatural investigations. It was through this branch that he was assigned to the Fifth.
Now he functions as the London team's tech support and keeps the information database up-to-date and accurate.
Powers | Training | Experience | Weaknesses:
Archer possesses a slightly less than average level of strength for a human. As well, he possesses all basic human weaknesses. Like...he bleeds and dies and doesn't come back from the dead.
He has limited experience using a gun, as in, he's only shot a gun once, in a shooting gallery. Needless to say, his aim is...appalling.
He claims to be very dangerous with a screwdriver, but has never actually backed up this claim.
Family/Ties:
Diedre Rayne - mother
The Fifth - team member
RP Sample:
Archer peered at the small print, turning the page after one second, being very careful not to tear the delicate, aged paper of the 17th-century tome. He blinked and then turned the page again. Muttering something about Enlightenment ideals, he failed to notice when Autumn walked into his...well it couldn't really be called an office, it was more like his...area.
"Archer?"
His head snapped up as he looked at her through his reading glasses, his eyes slightly magnified.
"Ms. Walker!" He set the book down and pulled off his glasses. "I was just verifying the authenticity of Deonne's claims of demonic possession and soul recollection of government officials in 17th-century France. Though, really, I think he was just exaggerating. I'm fairly certain that it was more a case of deviant influence and leverage against the more ethically-deficient politicians of the area than any kind of actual dominion over the individual body..."
"Archer!"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"I didn't ask..."
Archer proceeded to blush.
