Kaet Dalton
Character Name:
Kaet Genevive Dalton
(pronounced "kah-et")
Species:
shapeshifter (golden eagle)
Age, Gender:
19, female
Description:
Kaet stands at roughly 5'4". she has an athletic build, and is naturally very thin. she will never have the perfect curvy figure, but she doesnt mind. she tends to be lean, her physique is not obvious until she makes an effort, then her wiry build becomes apparent. She is half native, and that shows in her raven black hair. However, her fathers side of the family is european and shows itself through her startling eyes and fair skin. Because of her condition, Kaet's eyes are permenantly golden-the color of topaz, or tigers eye. Additionally, although she appears slender, her bodyweight is unnaturally low even for a indevidual of her size. Her skeleton has the lightness found in the hollow bones of birds, which decreases her weight significantly. Kaet is very earthy in her choice of clothing. More for practicality than fashion. the fabrics are all light and airy, usually natural. She is not alergic to synthetic materials (such as nylon) but tries to avoid them. The aura she gives off is that of lightness, as though she could simply vanish. this usually plays to her atvantage in a fight, as she is much stronger than she appears. Kaets shifted form is that of a golden eagle. her plumage is a dark brown that is intermngled with lighter, copper toned and white feathers. from the ground she appears gold, while from above, she is a dark silouette. The wing span is about 4', and presents a daunting impression. Her eyes in eagle form are the same as they are when she is human.
Personality:
Kaet is a very quiet indevidual. this is not out of shyness, rather a desire to keep her secrets to herself. She is very suspicious of others, and people must earn her trust. this quality makes it hard for her to have relationships of any sort, as she is not always willing to give herself to another--whether that be in love or in friendship. She has a inclination to trust lycanthropes and vampires before humans. although she is niether, she feels a connection, and can relate to them better than normal humans. The curse that allows Kaet to shapeshift has been a burden. she knows of others whoembrace their ability, but Kaet uses is only in nessescity, she prefers to ignore open awknowledgement of her other form. Although she is quiet, Kaet is generally satasfied with life. things have finally started to work out for her and she would like to keep it that way. Kaet is a skilled musician, and plays the native american flute as a pastime. she feels a connection with her past when she does so.
History:
4 generations ago, a young native woman fell for a european settler. the two of them had planned on eloping and making their own way far from the womans tribe and the mans villiage. however, before the lovesick couple's dream could unfold, the womans family discovered that she had been with a settler. In punishment for the bretrayal toward her people, the woman was forbidden to ever see her beau again, and the women of her line will be able to take the form of the Golden Eagle, her peoples god of nobility and courage. It was to be a reminder of what she had failed to do. Months later, the woman gave birth to a daughter. whom she named Genevive in honor of her lovers heritage. Genevive was the first to show the shapeshifting powers. Although the woman tried to hide, it, the truth came out and Genevive was rejected. There was no more daughters in the family until Kaet was born. because the curse had not been present for over a century, Kaets mother believed that perhaps the curse had worn off. however, shortly after her birth, Kaet shifted into a nestling. It was at that moment her parents discovered that the family curse was not a legend. Kaet's middle name, Genevive, is a tribute to the first woman who was afflicted with the ability. throughout her childhood, Kaet was treated like any other child, as long as she kept the shifting to herself. This was a lesson that was reinforced outside of the family as well. One summer, when Kaet was 8yrs old, she accidentaly shifted in front of a group of schoolchildren. There is an age in childhood where they can be incredibly cruel. This was that age. After that incident, Kaet decided to take up a martial art. She eventually settled for Ju-jitsu, where the focus is to use your opponents engergy against them, rather than fight it. Her mother was tolerant of it, Her father, along with the rest of her relatives, were not. They viewed it as being "dirty laundry" on their family name. Kaet tried to fit in and forget about the curse, but she never truely could. when she turned 18, Kaet left her family to attend university on London. She planned on attending Brunel University. Her family provided the imediate funds, and Kaet soon found a job in a local bookstore. Shortly after her arrival Kaet became very aware of the vampire and Lycanthrope populations. She has still not come to compleate terms with her curse, but she is more accepting of it among others who are considered monsters.

the last rays of the fading sunset wormed their way through the thin cloud cover. The sky had empied itself earlier that afternoon, leaving thin, high clouds and the damp coolness that always follows rain over london. It wasn't true dark yet, the vampires would not have risen. there was still perhaps an hour before full dark. an hour where she could safely roam the streets. It wasn't that Kaet did not like vampires, but she wasn't entirely comfterable around them either. her entire life she had been raised in a wealthy new england home. Things such as vampires simply didn't exist. Of course, that would mean Kaet couldn't exist either. Not in that perfect, picturesque world anyway. The thought almost made her laugh. How could she be sitting here, gazing down on the streets of london from her modest flat, telling herself how she was not fond of vamps. Last time Kaet checked, she was one of the monsters too, addmittedly, she did not need blood to survive, but then, that wasn't what all catagorized someone as a monster.
a second glance up to the sky showed that the orange tinted clouds had finally faded to the indigo that comes just before true dark. Kaet stood, and pushed the single window open, looking across the english city. She willed herself to change, letting whatever power had been thrust upon her family centuries ago rise and fill her body. the pale linen dress that she had been wearing fell away from her body. she could feel her skeleton change, it was painful, but it wasn't the best sensation either. Less than a minute later, a golden eagle stood, surrounded by the fabric of the dress. in one swift movement, too fluid for a bird of its size, Kaet sat perched on her windowsill. She shook her broad wings out and dove from the window, falling for several seconds before she snapped out her wings and glided up over the city. Eagles weren't native to the area, but then, there were more dangerous things for people to watch out for at night.
