Esme giggled slightly, she felt she could certainly sympathize, even the smallest bit with Autumn. It wasn't often that Esme ended up meeting someone she could speak normally with, even speaking normally with her friends she felt kind of like she was forcing herself to act like them, with Autumn Esme felt as if she were speaking to someone she had much more in common with, she liked it.
"No, actually. I'm studying law at the university, but I'm from Leeds. Are you from around here?"

Autumn nodded, "Yeah, from the area, but was in the forces, so dont really call any one place home, lived here for almost a decade now...i think...jeesh...I feel old now.." She shrugged and pushed her hands further into her pockets, feeling the chill and the cold.
"It's gonna be a harsh winter, tell you that much..." She shivered, "fancy getting a coffee?" Ok, she was inviting a stranger to cofee, but she felt like they had something in common, both human in what seemed like an inhuman world.

"You certainly don't look like you've been anywhere for much more than a decade, other than your first home," Esme admitted. Autumn truly didn't look much older than herself, so it came as a bit of a shock that Autumn was older than Esme.
"Sure, I could go for something warm," Esme said to the offer. She rose from the ground and gathered her belongings, quickly throwing them into her bag. It seemed like it had been ages since she had spoken with a human she had anything in common with, so Esme was kind of looking forward to what coffee would bring.

Autumn smiled, "I know a place, just ten minutes away on foot..." Autumn smiled and pushed back off the tree and began to gentle, slow walk toward the coffee shop.
"So, Esme, tell me, your power, i mean, being a witch, did you stumble across it or were you raised with it? If that made sense?" Autumn chuckled then and realized her social skills were some what lacking in any skill. She could talk the hind legs off a donkey with a vampire or a demon, but a human, she kind of sucked.

Esme trotted after Autumn, to end up walking on the same level as her. Once she had caught up, she slowed down to walk at the same speed as Autumn. Esme felt calmer, just walking with her. Esme felt that she could eventually have someone to confide in with Autumn.
She nodded her head to Autumn question, "Yes, I understand you. I just don't know what you would call my power. It's old family magic, but it skips generations so that I was brought up thinking that it didn't exist. It was only until after I used magic for the first time, when I was a teenager, that I actually began to practice it and believe in it. But even so, I'm not all that powerful, but I've recently acquired a mentor, so I should be able to practice well soon."
"How about yourself?" Esme turned the question on Autumn, "Did you grow up with your abilities, or did you figure them out later in life?" she paused, she had another question to ask, being the inquisitive person she was, but she didn't quite know whether or not to ask just yet. She decided to ignore decorum and just ask, "And if you don't mind me asking, how do you use your powers now? I mean, plenty of people could use them to get ahead in life or something, but have been trying to help a greater good than just yourself?"

Autumn bobbed her head in understanding to Esme's answer and pushed her hands deeper into her pockets as they left the forest. They walked down a old cobble street, heading toward a side ally coffee shop Autumn knew.
"Erm...." Autumn began in answer to the question, "I, was in the army, on a mission, we ran into something supernatural, a were-wolf..." Autumn's mind flashed back to the savagery and swallowed hard then.
"Any way, I was recruited to help..." She knew she could not mention to too much, "I work for The Vatican, of sorts, making sure people are safe. It was after this i came into my power, and i use it to help make sure the human race does not fall prey to the things that lurk in the shadows so to speak..."
They reached the coffee shop and Autumn opened the door and stepped in, holding the door open for Esme. She moved toward the back of the small coffee shop, it was dark, and quiet. Rich red walls and small little round tables. Autumn sat down and flicked through the menu, even though she already knew what she wanted.

It was only after speaking to Autumn for a few minutes that Esme came to realize how very little about this world she knew. So, the Vatican knew about what was going on? And they had recruited this woman to help? So, that means there are more humans out there doing the same thing that the Council does, protecting the human race. But does that mean the Council works for the Vatican or are they an independent society? Esme had so many questions, but she wasn't quite sure how much Autumn would trust her just yet. Instead, she tried to keep quiet.
She quietly thanked Autumn when she held the door open for her, and followed her to the back of the coffee shop. Esme absentmindedly flipped through the menu. Rather than choose what she wanted to drink, most likely falling back to her old faithful cappuccino, she decided to ask Autumn one question, only one. How much could one more question hurt, truly?
"So, the Vatican's involved? What do they do to help the situation? Do they have an organization like the Council started, or is the Council a branch of the Vatican's greater organization? Or is it the other way around?" Esme asked. She needed to know, and she knew she would forget to ask if they got on a different subject.

The waitress came over and Autumn smiled at the woman, “Large white coffee please...” She then turned to Esme to make her order, and once the waitress had jotted down the details Autumn began to answer Esme’s question.
“The Vatican, created an organisation named The Fifth, to police, control and help keep hidden the supernatural world.” Autumn paused when she realized the young witch had made mention of The Council, “The Council, are allied with The Fifth and the Vatican, they also choose to agree that the supernatural world needs to remain hidden and controlled, at the moment. As you can imagine the Vatican and The Council are a very shaky alliance.” Autumn allowed her voice to trail when the waitress brought their drinks and nodded a thanks to the waitress waiting for her to once again walk away.
“That answer you question?”

Esme waited until Autumn ordered before she did, "A cappuccino, please." As quickly as the waitress had appeared, she disappeared once more.
Esme listened patiently to Autumn's question, as more questions formed in her brain. Sometimes she wondered why her brain would come up with questions even quicker than she could form words for them, quicker than anyone could answer them.
"That answers that question, but I have others. So, I know plenty about the Council. But how is that this 'Fifth' was created by the Vatican. Actually, the more pressing of my questions is how does the Fifth function? Is it like the Council or is it a much larger organization? Does it function on it's own or does it work alongside the Council? And does it get orders directly from the Vatican?" Esme trailed off.
"I'm sorry, I'm naturally inquisitive. Most of what you're telling me is extremely new compared to what I've learned from others. You can choose not to answer my questions if you'd like."

Autumn smiled, "You want a history lesson?" She smirked and watched as the waitress brought them back their drinks. Waiting once again for the waitress to be out of ear shot Autumn cupped the mug in her cold hands and began to explain to Esme all about the Fifth.
"They Fifth began in 1350 AD during the European outbreak of the black death. During this time, the supernatural world rose up and took advantage of mankind’s weakened state, a vast quantity of those who perished during this time, did not die, as history books suggest from the black death, but from attacks by supernatural entities." Autumn looked around as if worried some one might hear, the main focus of the Fifth was to make sure others did not come aware of what was really out there.
"In October 1347, a fleet of Genoese trading ships fleeing Caffa reached the port of Messina in Sicily. Carefully hidden from the history books, this was The Fifths first official venture. At the time they were only a small band of monks sent by the Vatican. Upon this ship, a trader had stumbled upon Pandora’s Box, and opened it. This was, in turn, the beginning of the Black Death. By the time the fleet reached Messina, all the crew members were either infected or dead. It is presumed that the ships also carried infected rats and/or fleas. Some ships were found grounded on shorelines, with no one aboard remaining alive."
Autumn was by now pretty much quoting the Fifth history journals, she wondered then, as she tucke a strand of dark hair behind her ear if this Esme would like to work for The Fifth, they could always do with the added power of a witch.
"So you can imagine it took hundreds of years for mankind to recover from the opening of Pandora’s Box, and during this time the Vatican took it upon themselves, to protect mankind. Now, in modern day, being one of the largest and most powerful religious organisations in the world, The Vatican have ample resources to keep The Fifth proficient in their work. We, The Fifth, recruit the best of the best, in specialist field to police the supernatural world and keep it hidden from the general public. Many of the recruits in the Fifth are ex criminals, taken from prison and placed within the fifth to work off their sentence. Being an organisation based on protecting mankind from the horrors of the supernatural community, and keeping everything hidden, they very rarely accept a supernatural being into the ranks of The Fifth. You can imagine, my being there does nothing but cause a few heads to roll so to speak...."
Autumn paused then, trying to recall what Esme's other questions were, pulling the coffee mug to her lips she blew the steam away and took a small sip of the hot liquid.
"So yes, The Fifth is a large organization with bases through out the world in all major cities. They take their main orders from the Vatican, but function enough on our own intelligence. We have a very long chain of command. The Vatican fund and control the major steak of the organization. The Council, came to us, to align themselves as they sought the same goals, to protect and keep hidden, the Vatican allow the council to work with us, but they do not trust them...thats all down to religion, I find the council a great asset."
