Esme listened to Autumn's speech intently. How amazing it must be to be involved with an organization with such a history. And how much more amazing Autumn must be to be a member of the supernatural world involved in the Fifth, an organization that seems to frown upon being in this world and not being human. Esme had a new found appreciation for Autumn, for her knowledge, her strength and anything else about this woman that probably has not made itself apparent to her just yet.
Every now and again, Esme would stop gazing in wonder at her new companion and take a sip of her drink, but all in all: she was entranced. Esme couldn't help but stare in awe as everything started to fall into place, even more, in her mind.
Esme sighed when Autumn finished, "Everything always seems to boil down to religion in some way or another. Personally, I find that the Council has been the most helpful part of this world for me. And you are a smart woman to trust them, despite what the Vatican may think."
Esme wanted to share her common acquaintances of the Council with Autumn, but she felt that by telling her about who and what she knew she would be setting herself apart from Autumn. Esme felt so closely aligned to the Council, something that even Autumn probably couldn't or wouldn't share with someone she had just met. Instead, Esme remained silent, allowing Autumn her rightful chance to ask questions... if she wanted.

Autumn sipped her coffee, allowing the liquid to warm her up, her eyes passive toward Esme, smiling now and again as the woman spoke.
"Yeah," She sighed as she placed her cup down, "I try to stay clear of religion, i find it clouds even the most rational mans judgment, wars begin because of religion...It's weird, i work for an organization founded by the biggest most powerful religious organization in the world and i still claim to be an athiest..." Autumn scoffed then and shook her head.
"So you know the council members?"

Esme giggled a bit when Autumn mentioned that she had no religion, "Perhaps it is more wise to tie oneself to no religion rather than trying to conform to only one. I'm a cradle Catholic who doesn't quite follow my own religion every now and again."
She took another sip of her drink as Autumn inquired about her connections to the Council. "Yeah, well, technically I only know 3/4 of the members, but a majority is good enough to say that I know the Council. I first met Vlad, I absolutely adore him, and he taught me so much about the Council and so much more about this world than I ever could have imagined.
"He was so intrigued by me that he introduced me to Morgan, who's going to be my mentor, all things given. I don't know her as well as I do Vlad, she's seemed to be much more reserved around me... granted, I've only been with her in the company of Vlad.
"And I had a chance meeting with Judas. I've been so intrigued by him, he's just an interesting person. No matter how much he's tried to keep secret from me. But I think he's got me figured out, he understands how my brain ticks and he knows how to keep me from bothering him. But I don't quite know what it is about him that interests me so much.
"The only person that I haven't met, but I truly want to, is the oh so elusive Jonas. Vlad's told me stories about him, like Vlad's told me stories about the rest of the Council. But even Vlad's stories, as the rest of the Council probably knows, isn't enough to keep me from searching for more information on them. They interest me."
Esme thought for a moment, at this point she was truly interested in hearing what Autumn's own take on the Council was. "How about yourself? How are you acquainted with the Council? How exactly do they fit in your grand scheme of thinking?"

Autumn bobbed her head as she listened, she too knew 3 of the four council members, the allusive Jonas, he who built the council, she had not met.
“I too have met three of the four, Morgan Le Fey is the one i have the longest relationship with, she is the more...human, is that the word i should use? She is a kind, wise soul who i utterly respect. Vlad, is..well Vlad, once i got over being star struck, is a perfect gentleman and Judas...” She paused then wondering what word to use,
“Is fascinating, and so tortured, i cannot even begin to imagine the suffering he goes through each day, and yet he aligns himself with the Council to aid the Fifth...They are all mighty in their own rights.
“Alas, i also have yet to meet Jonas, though i would love to, he alone began the council and sought out the others...fascinating man i believe...”

Esme nodded, their opinions of the Council were so much alike, and somewhat different at the same time. They both felt more loyalty to the members that had met first, and both were still oblivious to the existence of the oh-so admirable Jonas.
"I suppose we have much more in common than we had originally thought."
Esme sat quietly for a moment, trying to sift through the many questions that flitted through her mind, which one would be best to ask Autumn next. Finally, after disregarding quite a few questions, she decided to change subjects back to the Fifth and to Autumn herself.
"What exactly do you do for the Fifth? I mean, you don't seem like someone who follows whatever someone tells you to do, but in a way I can't see you as the ultimate power as well."

Autumn blew more steam off her coffee before taking a gulp and arched her brow when Esme asked what it was she did in the Fifth. She set her mug down gentle on the table and sucked on her bottom lip as she pondered how to explain her job.
"I'm the team leader of the London Task force of The Fifth," That was her job title, now she had to explain it, "Think of me as the leading police officer of the Fifth, or..Captain Jack from Torchwood..." Autumn laughed then, realizing she needed to watch the new episode of Torchwood later on that day.
"I am the one who battle, tackles, and controls and fights to keep the supernatural from harming people, and I command those who clean up and make sure supernatural crimes are not discovered. I then report back to my boss, the head of Fifth HQ, in London, who then reports to the big boss Of The Fifth who then reports back to the Vatican..."

Esme smiled, Autumn job actually sounded pretty cool. "That's really awesome, you probably get some pretty good swag out of that. It just sucks that you can't share a job that cool at a dinner party or something," Esme giggled at her own joke.
"It'd be pretty fun to have a job like that, I'm just so weak, I'd never last a day in a field like that. I can attract the problems, but I can't take care of them," Esme shook her head and shuddered mentally as she remembered her tet a tet with Roxy. That woman scared her so much and it bothered her that there was no way that Esme could protect herself from that woman.
"Ooh, does the Fifth have super hard tests for people who want to join who aren't doing to make up for a crime they committed? Like all of those American spy movies?"

Autumn shook her head and her eyes turned stern and serious, “It’s not fun, or awesome. It’s hard, and painful and harsh and brutal and you watch good people die, fighting an unseen war to protect a world that does not even know what we do, no recognition. And at the end of it all, you go home, and lay in bed at night watching the shadows arch and move, waiting for the monster to come and get you, because you know, eventually they will, no one steps into the darkness, no one kills the monsters and comes out alive. The dark world laces its icy fingers around your throat and slowly squeezes the life out of you. No cool gadgets, no fun office party, just death, destruction and the awful realisation that no one will ever say thank you....” Autumn let her eyes lower then and swallowed hard as she pondered what she had just said and shrugged, “I should go...” She began to rise up from her chair.

Esme listened silently, of course Autumn would view her life a different way than Esme. From the outside, a job protecting humanity would seem amazing, but Esme realized, that like every other job, there is a lot more at stake than what meets the eye. Esme watched as Autumn rose and then looked down at her mug.
"Thank you," she said, not extremely loudly, but hopefully loud enough, "for everything. Your work is appreciated, even though people don't know that they appreciate it. I certainly do. Being a member of this world, I've tried shielding this life from my entire family to protect them, I certainly wouldn't be able to do it on my own. And with the Fifth doing what they do, putting their lives in danger, people like my parents can live blissfully ignorant of the world that's around us. And truthfully, at times that's better straw in the deal. It may not seem like we appreciate it, like the greater amount of humanity appreciates your work, but if you were to put any of the creatures in this world in front of them they'd wish they had their ignorance back. Like they say, 'ignorance is bliss.'"
Esme looked up with expectant eyes, hoping that Autumn had heard her thanks. If she left, if she were to never see this woman again, it would all be okay if Autumn knew that there was someone in this world that was grateful for all of the work that she had done, that she was doing and what she would do.
