Esme decided not to honor Roxy's statement with a reply. Something about this woman was truly getting under her skin and Esme didn't want to have to deal with her any more than necessary. Perhaps if she listened to her enough the woman would leave her be.
The waiter arrived with the wine, yet another £300 bottle. Esme poured herself a glass of wine and took a drink, hoping that the alcohol would cool her system. She felt slightly bad for already using up £600, but when your family is filled with millionares, whats a few thousand pounds spent on dinner anyways? After months of Chinese take-out her parents owed it to her anyways.
"No boyfriends," Esme admitted, thinking back on the last long term relationship she had had and thinking of how she hadn't had a boyfriend since then. "I could definately have one if I wanted to, it's just a question of who's good enough. After being so close to marriage with the guy who I thought was perfect, it's hard trying convince yourself it could happen again. How about yourself, a beautiful and confident woman like yourself shouldn't be without a bit of arm candy."

Humans were flawed creatures by nature, this girl couldn't be this far different. Something had to get under her skin, something had to push her over the edge of calm. Obviously she just wasn't trying hard enough. She wanted the girl angry again, she wanted to get a better feel for whatever power was trapped within the body just begging to be set free.
Maybe she was prideful. Ruina liked the seven deadly sins, they were like laws for demons, they also helped narrow down human's personalities, no one was without sin nowadays and one character flaw was all a skilled demon needed. She listened to the girl's babble about why she didn't have a boyfriend. "Either that or your just not as interesting as you think you are and no other guy wants you. Maybe it's not if their good enough but if you are." She shrugged here and gave up on shaking her leg. She began to tap the bottom of her glass with her first finger, making a high ringing noise.
"I have all the men I want, and I always will." She grinned, thinking of all the men she'd seduced over the course of time. All of the humans and of course she and Lucifer, couldn't forget him. He acted annoyed with her on occasion but deep down he loved her and he knew it. Or maybe love wasn't the right word, maybe she'd refer back to her seven deadly laws and say it was lust.

Esme smiled as Roxy told her that there was a slight chance that she wasn't as interesting as she'd like to think she was. Esme knew of that chance and knew that it existed, indeed. But Esme was already quite aware that her facade of being a determined daughter of a lawyer was more than boring enough to give truth to the statement. Only Esme and a few of her friends knew the truth, knew of how interesting she truly was, and Esme was not upset about it either. It was truly only a hinderance to living a normal life in the eyes of her human companions.
Roxy began to run her finger across the mouth of her glass, causing a high pitched sound to come from the glass. Esme winced, not because the sound was so annoying but because the pitch was in between musical notes. Casually she placed both of her elbows onto the table and rest her chin on her hands, she placed her hands over her ears and smiled sweetly at Roxy.
"Well, it's a good thing that you aren't living without love as well. The life of a student is so boring that I don't think I'd have enough of an attention span to pay attention to a significant other if I had one," Esme smiled at Roxy once more. She could tell that because she was being so kind to her, Esme was getting under her skin, and in a way she enjoyed it.

Not pride. This girl didn't seem like the type for sloth or gluttony. Wrath was definitely out, making this human angry was like trying to move a mountain. That left envy, greed and lust. They'd covered love, and based upon that conversation she didn't really figure Esme a lustful female. Of course she had those instincts, every human did but they weren't her sin. Envy or greed...all she needed was one character flaw. One tiny crack in the girl's perfect shell for her to slip into. Something small that a familiar could offer the girl that she would want enough to not ask to many questions.
Ruina smiled with understanding at Esme's words about the boring life of a student. "Don't you just wish there was some way you could have more free time? Some way you could have more time for, oh I don't know, sports....friends....relationships....other lessons..." She emphasized other lessons. Many a young witch had been led astray by the promise of more time for their magic lessons.
"Aren't you just so jealous of all the students who have nothing else to do except classes? You know the ones I'm talking about right? The ones who don't have to work, the ones who's parents pay for everything?" That should cover envy.

Esme thought that she heard something peculiar in the way that Roxy had said "other lessons" but her mind had already started racing as she thought of the many other things she could learn if only she had a few extra moments in her day. How much she could practice and improve from what little she knew about magic to possibly become the witch her destiny said she should be. How much she wished she had that extra time, but never before had she thought of how enviable those that had that time were, and Esme was surprised she did indeed envy them.
"I guess I am a bit jealous of those people. But there are only so many hours in a day, I cannot change that, not matter how much I may like to."
Esme felt a pang in her heart after she admitted that out loud, Roxy had been poking around to find out something about Esme's personality that was less than desirable, and perhaps just by admitting that she was envious of those who had more time than she, she had provided her newest companion with the ammo that she needed to get under her skin. Esme just hoped that there was a chance the woman noticed, but not too long after noticing, Esme had felt a small trace of anger light something within her. She tried her hardest to conceal it, knowing that even the smallest glimmer of her magic could tip of the most sensitive of the supernatural and if her companion truly was of the supernatural she didn't want her to notice if at all possible.

Ding, Ding. We had a winner, envy come on down. She should have guess from the start, but hey even the best took some time. Now the only things to decide were whether to tell the girl about familiars, inconspicuously lead her to information about them and which shape she wanted to take.
She looked the girl over. Esme didn't seem like the type to believe in stereotypes but Ruina could justify the traditional cat form. Besides, she liked posing as the felines. The swinging way their small bodies walked was fun and all the places their small bodies could fit came in handy. Cat it was, but she'd be white instead of black, this girl was definitely not a black sort of person.
Now for the second question, how to get the girl thinking about familiars? After all, it would have to be Esme that made that conclusion herself when an extremely strange white cat begin to follow her. There was little to no chance of Esme trusting Ruina after all the fun she'd had with taunting the girl, subtle it was.
She simply shrugged in response to the comment of how she couldn't do anything about how little free time she had. And a grin spread across Ruina's face as the small power flared within the girl again as she got angry. "Ok, so let's cut to the chase here Esme. You've got power, I've got power." Ruina scribbled the name 'Daphne' and an address on a paper. "This is a friend of mine who has a book that I think you might really find interesting."
Daphne didn't exist. Well, not exactly. Ruina was going to take on the shape of an old woman and give Esme a spell book that would just happen to contain a detailed section on familiars among several other subjects that she wanted the girl to know.
"She's always home, the old bat doesn't get out much, so stop by any time."

Esme noticed a glimmer in Roxy's eyes as Esme mentioned how she was jealous of those with more time. She had most definitely given her the information that she needed, and Esme didn't know if it were worth her regretting it just yet. She took yet another leisurely sip from her glass of wine and pushed her hair out of her eyes. She placed her hand into one hand an looked towards the door, watching the people who entered the restaurant and stopped all conversation just to look at the two of them.
Esme's eyes grew wide as Roxy mentioned that she knew that she had powers and she did as well. Esme knew that her power was fluctuating because this woman was getting under her skin, but she didn't think that it was so much that she would notice.
Esme looked at the paper that Roxy handed her, 'Daphne' seemed like a good person to go see. Esme would love to learn more about this world, but there was something about Roxy that shouted 'DON'T TRUST HER!!!'. Esme folded the paper, keeping the idea of visiting Daphne in the back of her mind, but remembering that she was already going to be learning everything she ever wanted from Morgan, why would she need Daphne as well. Morgan came from someone she knew and trusted, Daphne didn't.
But she filed Daphne away in the back of her mind as Esme placed her name and address into her wallet. "I'll remember her," Esme stated, "Thank you. But I've got a teacher right now that's proving to be of great help for me, I don't think I'll need Daphne just yet."

Gah! Did this girl have to resist every step of the way? It was getting very tempting to just take over the body completely so she wouldn't have to hear one more sweet thing trickle out of that mouth! Patient she was not. But it would be so much more fun if this innocent girl turned to dark magic by her own choices, Ruina could be patient if that was the reward....maybe.
Maybe she should have just put the book in the girl's bag on the way out or something like that. Looked like the old lady guise was out, not to huge of a loss. Oh well, couldn't change the past, only manipulate the future.
Wait, what was this about a teacher? This could work to her advantage! The teacher would put the idea of familiars into Esme's head once Ruina showed up in her cat disguise, they had to right? Some sort of magical karmic duty or something? Or if that took to long then she could always kill the teacher and take on the poor sap's form.
"Teacher huh?" Ruina shrugged indifferently. "Suit yourself then. If you wanted, we could meet somewhere like tomorrow and I could just give you the book." One last try couldn't hurt before totally abandoning plan A. "Your teacher probably would be interested in seeing it too, it's old and in some weird language."
She finished off her drink and stared across the table. She wasn't going to let this one go, not after this much work on her part tonight. It would be hard to convince Esme to do the first dark spell but after that first jumping off point it would get easier and easier. It would just be a matter of finding the right place and the right time for the wrong spell.

Esme let out an irritated breath, this woman was beyond annoying. Esme couldn't seem to figure out why this woman got under her skin so much, but it was obvious there was no way she was going to avoid having to deal with her if it were in this woman's power. She was trying to push herself upon Esme in any way possible and Esme was beginning to feel that the only way she could get the woman to leave her be that night would be to promise to see her sometime in the future.
"Fine," Esme sighed, "I'll meet you some time later." Esme stopped the waiter as he walked by and desperately ordered a whiskey, she needed something stronger to ease her nerves, "Would you like something else to drink, Roxy?"
Esme knew that this woman was trying to get her to do something she'd regret entirely, but what would that thing be? What was Roxy plan? Esme wondered if this specific plan would go against every one of her plans.

She grinned as Esme finally caved. It had taken longer than Ruina'd planned but it felt good to see the girl give in to irritation if not exactly temptation. Persistence, try, try and try again. She knew she was annoying the human and the knowledge was like the rarest wine trickling down her throat, or the sweet sound of a soul crying out in anguish. Satisfying.
She tossed the waiter one last heated look before standing. She'd gotten what she wanted, now there was no reason to stay. It wasn't like she enjoyed talking to the sugary human. She turned back to Esme at the question of if she wanted something else to drink. "Nah." She grinned. "I'll meet you tomorrow, here."
She turned elegantly on her high heeled foot and made her way half out the door before turning back to call over her shoulder. "That's not a problem is it? No? Good. Ta!" A little wave of the hand and she was gone. If the girl didn't show up then Ruina would just track her down, of course if the girl didn't show then she'd also be very upset. A pissed king of demons was never a pleasant thing to deal with...so she'd been told.
