Esme took a deep breath, she knew exactly what Roxy was speaking of, but there was something wrong with that book. Something that Esme couldn't identify but knew she shouldn't mess with. But Esme also knew that Roxy was even more of an object that Esme shouldn't mess with.
Esme took the book in her hands and pushed away all of the feelings that overtook her. She had to do this, to get Roxy to leave her alone. Pure evil was sitting across from her and she was afraid of the bad aura that came off of a book? How stupid was that!
Esme opened to book, ignoring the sense that came over her once again, and looked at the page. Written ornately at the top of the page was 'Familiars'. Esme read it quickly, an animal drawn to a witch, their closest companion. Typically for witches, a cat, but sometimes, like with the goddess Artemis, a dog. Esme truly hated cats, so if there truly were a familiar out there for her, it better not be a feline.
"Are there really familiars out there for each witch or could some grow through their whole lives without finding their familiar?" Esme questioned, rather than continuing to read.

She grinned as the girl took the book and, finally, began to read. This was the easiest way, really the girl should be thanking her. Actually she was surprised Esme hadn't thanked her for the book even though it scared her, the girl would thank someone for running her over with their car. It really was sickening how polite she was but then Ruina would fix that, all in good time.
Ruina sipped daintily from her drink while she thought of the best way to answer. How the hell was she supposed to know something like that? Though she supposed if every witch had a familiar than naughty little demons like her wouldn't be able to lead them astray by posing as one.
"Not everyone has one. My old tutor used to tell me that only those worthy" She rolled her eyes. "of their help got one. I think that they show up when you need help though, like if a tough time is just around the corner and you're going to need the guidance."
She leaned over to point at the next section. "They can have all these really cool powers too. Like..." She pointed to a spot on the page. "..here for instance. Sometimes the witch can hear them talk. Or here." She pointed again. "They know when their witch is in trouble and where to find them to go and help."
Ruina sat back with a little laugh. "Spooky stuff huh?"

"Yeah," Esme said distractly when Ruina had posed her question. It would be even more spooky, she thought, if my familiar were to show up right at this very moment.
Esme smiled and closed the book, "Thank you," Esme said. "For the book, for your help, for... you know, everything."
Esme placed the book as far away from herself without seeming rude and took a sip of her drink, attempting to ease her nerves. Her heart, she felt, had to be beating a mile per minute, and her hands were begining to shake, even though it was a little to the eye, it was more than enough to make Esme feel worst off.
Esme just looked at Roxy, she couldn't think of what to say... she wanted to tell Roxy that she couldn't take that book home wit her, that it was against her religion to practice magic. That it was not enough room in her home for one more book. That there was something wrong with her body that prohibited her from picking up anything that weighed more than a few ounces... something, anything to keep her from having to take that dreadful book home with her.

Ruina laughed when the girl actually did thank her for the book that scared her. She’d called that one. She didn’t miss the careful distance Esme kept between herself and the book though. Oh well, nothing mattered except that this mortal took the book home. She’d give it a week and then make her appearance in animal form. The war would make keeping up the ruse more difficult but she wasn’t the king of demons for nothing, it would be manageable.
She tossed back the last of her drink with a wide smile. “Well then, it’s been fun. Enjoy the book and umm, here…” She scribbled down a phone number on a napkin. “Here’s my cell if you need to get ahold of me for whatever reason.” She’d have to find a cell phone, it wouldn’t be hard to convince the clerk to give her that particular number.
She stood from the table and walked out of the club without looking back, leaving Esme with the check. The girl had said she couldn’t stay long and Ruina’s business was done, so she’d leave and iron out the details of the rest of her plot.

Esme watched as Ruina walked off once again. How was it that she ended up being left by this annoying pain every single time? For once Esme wanted to show her how annoying it was to have to pay for everything even when she didn't offer to, but Esme didn't want to meet her again.
Esme drained the last of her drink and ordered a small lunch before she left, she might as well get something good out of all of the hassel she went through. The entire time that Esme ate she sat and stared at the book, how she despised it. She wanted to just leave it and Roxy's phone number, but obviously they would call Roxy and tell her she left something.
Esme knew that the only thing she could do was take it home with her, but she couldn't stand having that book anywhere near her home for too long. What was she to do? Eventually, she resolved to take it home and pawn it off on someone else, perhaps Vlad or Morgan would be interested in it. With that she paid for her meal and left the wine bar.
